Scouts, Guides and Cadets

The Maritime Museum, the South West’s Visitor Attraction of the Year, offers an inspirational, hands-on learning experience to guides, scouts and cadets of all ages.

All our displays are designed to be interactive and engaging to young people. Key features include amazing artefacts, hands-on exhibits and audio-visual displays exploring stories of wrecks and rescues, fishing, smuggling, historic boat-building and racing.  There’s also the opportunity to go ‘under-water’ in our Tidal Zone (one of only three natural underwater galleries in the world), and, after seeing life as a fish, climb the 29m tower to get a birds-eye view of Falmouth. You can also learn to sail in the Waterfront boat pool using our wind powered radio controlled boats.

Self-directed package:
As part of a pre-booked self-directed group visit, we offer:

• special education discount price of £3.00 per scout/guide or cadet
• free visits to supervising adults and group leaders
• risk assessment advice
• dedicated base area to eat packed lunches (subject to availability)
• a free session on our radio controlled boat pool
• free downloadable activity trail

A visit typically lasts upwards of 2 hours

Museum-lead package
As part of a pre-booked ‘museum-lead’ group visit we offer structured hands-on ‘challenge’ activities.

• special education discount price of £3.50 per scout/guide or cadet
• free visits to supervising adults and group leaders
• risk assessment advice 
• dedicated base area to eat packed lunches (subject to availability)
• a free session on our radio controlled boat pool
• free downloadable activity trail

Plus an additional hands-on challenge activity.  Please choose from :

• Rope-making: learn about the traditional skill of rope-making and make your own piece of rope to take away
• Knots: learn two ‘new’ knots (basic or advanced) to take back with you
• Survival challenges: storytelling and role-play activity based on the amazing story of survival by the Robertson family whose yacht was attacked and sunk by killer whales.

A visit typically lasts upwards of 3-4 hours. Where possible, we are happy to tailor a visit to your group needs or badge requirements.
