Welcome to Maritime Views. This site has been created by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall for those interested in maritime history. It covers a broad range of topics and is designed for all, although we will admit to a prejudice for our own favourites: the maritime history of Cornwall and the history of boats.
If you would like to be reminded when new things are added then sign up to the e-newsletter on the left.
Look out for the regular updates of the Packet Surgeon’s diaries. These charmingly written pieces give a good view of the life of a Packet ship in the early 19th century, seen through the eyes of a young Scottish surgeon. His description of a crossing the line ceremony shows that life on board has not changed much down the centuries.
Our Trafalgar section – yes, we have found a Cornish connection – includes two little known stories of the aftermath of the great battle while the aptly named ‘Others’ section contains odds and ends of interest.
Our specialist publication Troze is a refereed journal which appears approximately quarterly.
